Joe’s Oyster Bar/Gulf Seafood market is proudly owned by Mr. and Mrs. Joe Castillo Sr. Joe Castillo Sr. was born and raised in Port Isabel TX. He was pone of 14 children and like many of his siblings, had to work from a very young age to help take care of his family. Joe’s first job was as a janitor at a local bakery making $5 a week. Joe then began working in the restaurant industry. He became a cook and a chef at the Sea Island Hotel on South Padre Island, TX. With an ambition to succeed, he worked hard to save money and in 1982, opened Gulf Seafood Market in Port Isabel, TX. Gulf Seafood sold fresh seafood daily and served hot to go plates for many years. In 2001, he added on to Gulf Seafood and officially opened Joes Oyster Bar. It had instant success. Joe’s Oyster Bar has been recognized year after year by Trip Advisor for their fresh seafood, delicious meals, and excellent service. Joe’s Oyster Bar is managed by Ricky Hernandez, who has been Joe’s right hand man for 33 years. In 2016, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Castillo Sr, along with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Castillo Jr. opened a second location of Joe’s Oyster Bar in Rosenberg, TX. The Rosenberg location, Joe’s Oyster Bar and Grill, has also been very successful.
